Slab Bowl

I have made a bowl using clay. This was a super fun project to make. After forming our bowls we got to pick a print to leave on the outside of the clay bowl. Mine is a very simple pattern. I chose to make all of the same because I like the look of all of them matching and it being similar. I think my style kinda shows throughout this artwork because I  like to keep a lot of things simple and not have it crazy and a lot of things going on.

In the inside of the bowl we were told to put a word, I picked the word kindness, because looking back on this year and how much covid has affected my highschool experience. I think you really saw people’s true colors and how they truly were gonna act when it came to worse. This also goes along with the colors I put on my bowl. I ended up tending  to pick colors that were spring and colorful. This goes along with my word because I feel like when you think about the idea of spring and colorful you get the idea of a new and fresh start. This I think in turn goes with the kindness idea, you can only make a first impression once and most of the time you want it to be full of good and kindness and joy.

To make these bowls we were given a slab of clay and a paper outline. We cut out the paper outline and smoothed out of the clay slab. Then lightly tracing the outline onto the slab and  firmly pressing out pattern into the clay slab going over our trace line so nothing is left out. Then using a ruler to make a straight cut. We scored and slipped the edges together and smoothed them out. Let them dry for a couple of says before firing and glazing them.
